Well a reporting company is a class of companies that have stock registered under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 These companies file 10-Ks 10-Qs and current reports on form 8 K It is possible to be publicly traded and not be a reporting company although it's become rarer and rarer these days Most companies that people think of when they think of as public companies are reporting companies which means that you can read their annual and their quarterly reports and their shareholder reports on the Edgar system available at the SEC's website
