The FAVOR Factor: A Biblical Framework for Funds

The FAVOR Factor: A Biblical Framework for Modern Funds

In this episode of the Investor Relations Podcast, Joshua Wilson breaks down a revolutionary biblical principle discovered within the story of Nehemiah—the first "public-private government grant" strategy. By decoding the word FAVOR, Joshua reveals a mnemonic framework that maps directly onto the business model of private equity, venture capital, and hedge funds. Whether you are a GP or an LP, this "FAVOR" model allows you to audit your fund's lifecycle and identify exactly where you need to optimize for success.

The FAVOR Framework for Funds
Joshua explores how each letter in FAVOR represents a critical stage in the capital raising and management process:

F – Fundraise: The initial GPLP strategy where capital is raised from investors.

A – Acquire the Deal: The strategic acquisition of assets, whether in real estate, private businesses, or capital markets.

V – Value Proposition: Implementing a "value-add" strategy to increase the worth of the acquired assets.

O – Operate & Optimize: The operational phase where you grow equity and maximize the value of the portfolio.

R – Return & Redo: Providing the expected returns to investors and repeating the cycle for the next fund.

00:00:02.560 --> 00:00:15.049
Joshua Wilson: Hey guys, so pretty exciting, I'm studying capital raising and fundraising in the Bible, and there's some really interesting stories, but I think I've uncovered a biblical principle

2
00:00:15.100 --> 00:00:30.619
Joshua Wilson: on the word, favor that is associated with fundraising and funds. So, kind of early stages in this, but I wanted to share it so that we could collaborate on the idea and the concept of it. So, if you take the word favor.

3
00:00:30.620 --> 00:00:48.459
Joshua Wilson: Within a fund model, this works within a fund model, I don't know if it applies elsewhere, but within a fund, private equity fund, hedge fund, a SPAC even, but, venture capital fund, angel fund, if you take the word favor and kind of, like, spell it out, I like using mnemonics.

4
00:00:48.530 --> 00:01:07.169
Joshua Wilson: Not the smartest guy, helps me remember things, but if you take the word favor, and this was, I found this in the story of Nehemiah. It's the kind of the first public-private, government grant fundraising strategy, and I saw the word favor, and it stood out to me, so I kind of, like.

5
00:01:07.390 --> 00:01:25.709
Joshua Wilson: did some work on it, but here's the word favor spelled out. This is the business model of funds. You have to fundraise, right? They raise capital, GPLP strategy. They acquire the deal, A, acquire the deal, and that could be they're acquiring real estate, or businesses, or maybe even, deals

6
00:01:25.830 --> 00:01:29.069
Joshua Wilson: You know, in the capital markets, right? So, fundraise.

7
00:01:29.290 --> 00:01:49.289
Joshua Wilson: GPLP partnership, acquire the deal, then they add their value proposition, so a value add for the real estate, a value add for the business, and then you have to operate and optimize, right? So this is where, operationally, you grow the equity, you grow the value of that. And then you have to provide return.

8
00:01:49.380 --> 00:01:51.300
Joshua Wilson: to the investors.

9
00:01:51.590 --> 00:02:10.919
Joshua Wilson: And then you redo this process over again. So, in the fund model, if there's something broken down, you could kind of look at the favor and see maybe where you are lacking favor, and you could optimize that aspect of it. So, fundraise, acquire the deal, value proposition, operate and optimize, return and redo.

10
00:02:10.919 --> 00:02:19.890
Joshua Wilson: Let me know if I'm missing anything, or if you want to collaborate on some of these, concepts. We're gonna next go into capacity. Like, how do…

11
00:02:19.890 --> 00:02:29.880
Joshua Wilson: investors say yes. Why do investors say yes? And there's some things that popped out to me, but I just want to share that with you guys, and hopefully collaborate. You'll find this on our LinkedIn.

12
00:02:29.880 --> 00:02:41.379
Joshua Wilson: on our podcast, the Investor Relations Podcast, and some of our other media within our ecosystem. Guys, just send me a message either here or, on my LinkedIn. Cheers.
